Lanesborough provides the boy choristers for Guildford Cathedral. Boys usually enter the choir in Year 3 as probationers and, if they are invited and choose to become full choristers after that year, they remain choristers until the end of year 8 or their voices break, whichever is sooner.
They practice for an hour each school day morning, except Wednesdays and sing evensong at the cathedral at 5.30pm every Tuesday and Thursday during term time and up to 3 services on Sundays. In addition they sing at special services and concerts at the cathedral as well as going on occasional tours (most recently to the USA and to Holland). They have also appeared in a film (St Trinians 2) and on stage and radio and make occasional CD recordings.
Choir tours are entirely self funded and to help finance these, the chorister parents arrange fundraising events throughout the year. Recent events have included a Jubilee Jazz Night, a Quiz and Wine Tasting Evening and a Skittles Evening. Chorister parents are always very grateful for the help everyone gives them in supplying cakes for their fund raising cake stall at the Easter Bazaar. The choristers themselves have also raised funds through sponsored runs around the cathedral green and a Sunday morning car wash service.
Each term, the Choristers busy termly schedule will be posted on this page. It would be greatly appreciated if Form Reps within the Prep School could bare this in mind when arranging class events.
The four weekly music sheets can be downloaded from the cathedral website: http://www.guildford-cathedral.org/worship
Please note these services may not necessarily be sung by the boys.
