Lanesborough Learning Habits

Lanesborough Learning Habits

Our mission as educators is to instal a love for learning in our boys. To help them become the best learners they can be, we have created the Lanesborough Learning Habits. These essentially are the key characteristics we look for in great learners which will give them a fantastic platform to progress from as they move forward in all their endeavours.

Excited minds...learn how to learn using our Learning Habits

Learning Habits are skills and attitudes that can be learnt, developed and cultivated in order to equip pupils with an understanding of how best to respond to particular learning situations in the classroom, on the playground, or sports field, i.e. process over outcome.

Our boys learn to develop a critical stance with their work: inquiring, editing, thinking flexibly and learning from another’s perspective. Our Learning Habits are used in response to questions and problems.

In Pre-Prep our Learning Habits flow out of the EYFS Characteristics of Effective Learning (COEL):

  • playing and exploring - children investigate and experience things, and ‘have a go’;
  • active learning - children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements; and
  •  creating and thinking critically - children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.

In Prep our Learning Habits build on the skills and practises begun in Pre-Prep and expand the boys’ repertoire of thinking strategies.
