Lanesborough School in Guildford is our geographical location but the study of this subject enables the boys to appreciate not only their local environment but also the variety of physical and human conditions that are part of our entire home; Planet Earth.
The boys are encouraged to discover how our fragile world has, and continues to be, changed by physical and human impacts. We aim to foster a sense of wonder in the beauty of our world whilst encouraging an awareness of the importance of sustainable development. This is achieved through a broad based syllabus which allows for the development of knowledge and understanding and a challenging curriculum to enhance thinking skills and analysis.
Geography is an environmental study so the boys are able to enjoy a range of day and residential visits to enhance their fieldwork experience; from drawing plans of the school grounds in Years 3 to an optional visit to the bay of Naples and Vesuvius in Years 7 and 8.
Digital resources are used to develop knowledge and understanding, for presentations and for map skills. The department also uses a wide range of books, atlases and photographs to bring the subject to life.
