Embracing Change, Sustaining Excellence
We have announced that from September 2020, Lanesborough is to become a school for boys aged 3-11. At the same time allowing the number of places available to increase for boys joining aged 7, moving the school from a three form entry school, to four.
We have always been enormously proud of our strong academic reputation and long tradition of providing our boys with a warm, purposeful environment in which to start their educational journey. A forward-looking, progressive school, always thinking how we can best serve our community.
The value of a prep school education up to age 13 had always been a central part of what we offered. However, for our boys and in this part of the country, the trend to join senior schools at age 11 has strengthened over a period of years. We listened to what parents are told us. We talked to experts in the field and to the Heads of the local senior schools about future trends. As a result, we considered that the demand for Year 7 senior school places would only increase and that it was likely to become the main entry point for senior schools in the region. Therefore, we believed that for Lanesborough boys, the time had come to focus on 11 as the age of transfer to senior schools.
By increasing the number of places available lower down the school, particularly in Year 3, we can retain our current size and enable even more boys to benefit from a Lanesborough education. We already have means-tested bursaries available to pupils and this remains an important part of our plan.
Boys will continue to benefit from our extensive range of activities and excellent facilities, as well as being taught by our specialist teachers. They will still enjoy lessons in small classes, together with the diverse range of music, sports and creative and performing arts opportunities. We continue to invest in our facilities to ensure they remain outstanding. In 2016, we opened our new £3m purpose-built Sports Hall complex and in September 2017, boys were able to perform in the refurbished Performance Hall for the first time.
We regularly review, adapt and evolve to ensure we retain our position as the leading boys' only prep school in the area. We will continue to offer all our boys a broad and challenging curriculum, which stretches, excites and fosters their love of learning. Our teaching and learning programmes and our facilities set us apart and we are immensely proud of all that we provide, of our boys and of their many achievements. The strategic change is designed to maintain our strong reputation as the first-choice boy's only prep school in this area.
