Overview
Classics at Lanesborough offers something unique in the timetable.
Boys learn to speak and read Latin, receiving a thorough grounding in the vocabulary and structure of this language that then informs and illuminates their modern language work. We look in detail at features of history ranging from Roman schooling to weapons of war, taking in Greek mythology and linguistics and arriving at a full understanding of the legacy of the ancient world.
Our studies give the opportunity for the re-enactment of Senate debates; the scripting of original plays in Greek; the creation of 3D Roman towns; competitive online vocabulary games; and even the composition of verb-ending rap songs.
The aim of the Department is to bring Latin to life as an enjoyable and accessible learning-rich subject for all.
