Assessment Arrangements for entry in September 2019
For main points of entry - Nursery, Reception and Year 3 (7+)
We aim to make all the assessments as friendly as possible and they will be carried out by teachers with wide experience of the age range. We realise that candidates come from a variety of backgrounds and, therefore, we will be looking for potential as well as their current ability.
The School has regard for the guidelines as outlined in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice (2014) and the Equality Act (2010). It expects parents to inform the School, prior to the assessments, if their son has any Special Education Needs and give details of any assessments which may have been carried out, so appropriate arrangements may be made.
Admissions into Nursery (3+)
Optional STAY AND PLAY sessions will be held in January in the two weeks before the assessments take place. Then on Saturday 19th January 2019, boys and their parents will be invited to attend a short session with Pre-Prep Early Years staff. The boys will be assessed in small groups of similarly aged boys. Places for the September will be offered by the end of February. Then entry into Shell will be conditional on successfully completing the year in the Nursery and being judged able to cope with the demands of the curriculum at Pre-Prep.
STAY AND PLAY sessions will be held during the first two weeks of October for all boys who are registered for entry into Shell in September 2019. Assessments for entry into Shell (Reception) will take place on Saturday 10th November 2018. The boys and their parents will be invited to attend a short session with Pre-Prep Early Years staff. The boys will be assessed in small groups of similarly aged boys. Places will be offered by the end of November.
Year 3 (7+) - Bursaries are available at 7+ - details on website or upon request
The assessment for this age group will take place on the afternoon of Thursday 8th November and the morning of Saturday 10th November 2018. Attendance at both sessions is mandatory.
The boys will be assessed academically through a variety of online and written tasks for Maths, English and General Ability and there will be some organised assessed activities involving music, sport and a very informal group interview. Places for September 2019 will be offered shortly after the assessments have been completed.
