Assessment Arrangements for entry in September 2020
For main points of entry - Nursery, Reception and Year 3 (7+)
We aim to make all the assessments as friendly as possible and they will be carried out by teachers with wide experience of the age range. We realise that candidates come from a variety of backgrounds and, therefore, we will be looking for potential as well as their current ability.
The School has regard for the guidelines as outlined in the Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) Code of Practice (2014) and the Equality Act (2010). It expects parents to inform the School, prior to the assessments, if their son has any Special Education Needs and give details of any assessments which may have been carried out, so appropriate arrangements may be made.
Admissions into Nursery (age 3+)
Assessments for entry into the Nursery will take place on a Saturday early in January 2020 when boys and their parents will be invited to attend a short session with Pre-Prep Early Years staff. The boys will be assessed in small groups of similarly aged boys. In addition, optional Stay and Play sessions will be offered to boys to enable them to get a feel for the Nursery and meet the staff who will be looking after them when they come in for their assessment. Entry into Shell will be conditional on successfully completing the year in Nursery and being judged able to cope with the demands of the curriculum at Pre-Prep.
Assessments for entry into Shell (Reception) will take place on a Saturday in November 2019. The boys and their parents will be invited to attend a short session with Pre-Prep Early Years staff. The boys will be assessed in small groups of similarly aged boys. Optional Stay and Play sessions will be offered to boys to enable them to get a feel for the Nursery and meet the staff who will be looking after them when they come in for their assessment.
