Swayne Family Visit
John and Margaret Swayne are two of the three children of Stuart Swayne, and visited the school this week.
John and Margaret Swayne are two of the three children of Stuart Swayne, who was headmaster and owner of Lanesborough School from the late 1940s until the school was sold to the RGS in 1978. From 1951 the Swaynes lived as a family on the first and second floors of Braganza House, now Lanesborough Pre-Prep, and hence John and Margaret grew up there as children.”
As a result of their visit they were able to see amongst other things the bedrooms where they used to sleep, the dining room where the whole extended family would have Christmas lunch sitting around an adapted table-tennis table and the garden they remembered playing in. During all this time children from the school aged 5 to 7 used the downstairs rooms as classrooms, while the Swayne children shared their living accommodation with a number of the school’s teachers who also lived upstairs at the same time!
