Boys from Lanesbrough come second in the country in the National Year 5 Science Quiz Club Chapionships.
As winners of our area heat, held last June, we were invited to compete in the South East semi-finals on Tuesday 13th September at Connaught School, Bagshot. All the other heat winners were there competing for a single place in the finals and it was clear from the start that we had some fierce competition. Our team of Niles Cole, Max Grzinic, Tom Moores and Roshan Patel were calm under pressure and began the quiz confidently, putting us 40 points into the lead after a few questions.
The other teams were tough, however, and we were soon overtaken on a question about salmonella. Undaunted, the boys continued to gain full marks for all levels of question and as other teams started to falter, they remained strong and once again we were in the lead and drawing away from the other teams. The final score of 2560 points was 245 above the next placed team and so the result was clear: Lanesborough had won and were through to the finals!
The final took place at the Culham Centre for Fusion Energy in Abingdon on Thursday 22nd September and after being neck and neck throughout the competition narrowly missed out on first place amongst the 12 schools! A superb performance. Could you have answered - what is entymology?
Well done, Max, Niles, Tom, Roshan and Freddie.
Afterwards the boys and the parents got a tour round this amazing facility - it was so secret and important that everyone had to bring their passports and have identity checks!
