Year 3 Trip to Butser Farm
Year 3 visited Butser Farm.
On Wednesday we went to Butser Ancient Farm. We went there to learn about Celts and their traditions. First, we went to a gigantic roundhouse, a lady told us about how the Celts lived and I learned that roundhouses were different than others because they had different roofs and a fire in the centre. When I heard about the chieftains and how their clothes and decorations were different, it was a surprise to me.
Then we went into groups, I was in the Wild Boars. Our first activity was carving chalk. I carved a design onto my piece of chalk and then rubbed a leaf over the design which really made it stand out. We did archaeology too. Then we had our packed lunches. My lunch was a sandwich and some chicken then we walked to the gift shop. We played a bit. Just when I thought it was finished we did one more activity. The surprising name made me think “How will we do this?” as the activity was called ‘Chalk crushing’. We used really strong mallets to crush the chalk. Since it was really hard to find the chalk I took mine from the pile. I smashed mine so hard that it sounded like thunder. It was really fun.
When we finished this activity we changed our shoes and boarded the coach. This was a very exciting and interesting outing. I know so much more about the Celts now.
