Embracing Change and Sustaining Excellence
We are delighted to share our exciting plans for the future of Lanesborough School. From September 2019, we will become a school for boys aged 3-11. At the same time, we will be increasing the number of places available to boys joining the school aged 7 and will move from three form entry to four form entry in Year 3.
We are enormously proud of our strong academic reputation and long tradition of providing our boys with a warm, purposeful environment in which to start their education journey. We are a forward looking, progressive school, always thinking how we can best serve our community.
The value of a prep school education up to age 13 has been a central part of our offer. However, for our boys and in this part of the country, the trend to join senior schools at age 11 has strengthened over recent years. We have listened to what parents are telling us. We have talked to experts in the field and to the Heads of local senior schools about future trends. As a result, we consider the demand for Year 7 senior school places will only increase and that this is likely to become the main entry point for senior schools in the region. Therefore, for Lanesborough boys, we believe the time has come to focus on 11 as the age of transfer to senior schools.
By increasing the number of places available lower down the school, particularly in Year 3, we will retain our current size and enable even more boys to benefit from a Lanesborough education. We already have means tested bursaries available to pupils and this remains an important part of our plan.
Boys will continue to benefit from our extensive range of activities and excellent facilities, as well as being taught by our specialist teachers. They will still enjoy lessons in small classes, together with the diverse range of music, sports and creative and performing arts opportunities. We will continue to invest in our facilities to ensure they remain outstanding. Last year, we opened our new £3m purpose-built Sports Hall complex and this September, boys were able to perform in the recently refurbished Performance Hall for the first time.
We regularly review, adapt and evolve to ensure we retain our position as the leading boys’ only prep school in the area. We will continue to offer all our boys a broad and challenging curriculum, which stretches, excites and fosters their love of learning. Our teaching and learning programmes and our facilities set us apart and we are immensely proud of all that we provide, of our boys and of their many achievements. Our plans are designed to maintain our strong reputation as the first-choice boys’ only prep school in this area.
We have prepared a FAQ guide designed to answer questions about our plans, which can be found here.
Individual visits are especially welcomed and can be arranged by contacting Mrs Francis, Admissions Secretary, on 01483 880489 or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
The next Open Day will be held in March 2018 for parents wishing to learn more about Lanesborough and to see the school in action.
