Year 8 Trip to Juniper Hall
On Friday 9th September, Year 8 left the classroom to do some geography fieldwork based around the river Tillingbourne.
The primary focus was to extend their geographical understanding of rivers and collect primary data for their fieldwork. They measured various characteristics of the river at three different sites along its course downstream. The boys were able to gain experience at using clinometers and ranging poles to measure gradient and hydroprops to measure flow velocity. They collected lots of primary data which they will be analysing back in the classroom to find out how this particular river changes downstream. Will the pattern fit the geographical theory? They will hope to conclude this, or discover whether certain results did not fit in with their predictions. If so, they will try to answer why.
