
Year 5 Boys Achieve Challenge Day Success


A group of Year 5 Lanesborough boys came 1st and 2nd at The Royal School's Challenge day.
The day was broken up into 4 different tasks. Lanesborough came 1st and 2nd out of 16 boy groups. Well done boys!

Science - Build an airship
They were given many items including plastic bottle, elastic bands, a propeller and 3 helium balloons. They had to design an aircraft to carry jelly baby passengers over a certain distance. The distance was marked out with 4 distance land marks. Bonus points were given for each distance mark crossed.
Marks were awarded for consideration of the following:
- Ability to work as a team
- Design
- Number of passengers
- Distance travelled
Information Technology – Produce a presentation ‘Are computer games educational’
Marks were awarded for consideration of the following::
- Ability to work as a team
- Research and prep
- Quality of slides
- Shared group input for prep and presentation
- Points and how well the points were put across
- Interaction with the audience
Physical Education – Series of sports drills
- Football dribble
- Agility course
- Throw at stumps
- Bean bag throw into hoop
- Netball shootout
- Basketball wall pass
Maths – Maths treasure hunt
- Series of 33 questions. Teams had to answer a question correct before moving on and finding the next question.
- Bonus marks for 1st finish and all correct answers
- IT - Complimented on how they used Google slides rather than PowerPoint. They were the only group of the day to do this.
- Maths – In 24 years of the challenge day the fasted time was 19 minutes to complete. B group managed 31 mins but got 1 question wrong. 23/25.
- Sci – 25/25 full marks
