Epsom Public Speaking Competition
This week three talented Year Fives competed in a public speaking competition hosted and organised by Epsom College.
Each boy wrote, memorised and performed a speech on a topic of their choice. This year, the boys chose the subject - Electric Vehicles: help or hindrance? Oscar deGentile Williams opened as the Chair, speaking for one minute to open; Dominic Moore, Main Speaker, spoke for three minutes; Oliver Godkin, Vote of Thanks, spoke for one minute. Having won the Cup last year, the boys were under pressure! But they did not let this, nor competing against nine other schools, phase them. They performed expertly, as was reflected in the feedback from the Judges. They said ‘the boys’ voices were crisp and clear, using different speeds well, taking total command of their subject and audience. Their performance was very polished with high-quality content that had clarity, structure and a strong sense of ownership and persuasion. The boys engaged with the audience with energy.’
Oliver G's role in the team was specially celebrated through being awarded the ‘Best Vote of Thanks’ in the competition; high was praise indeed as the calibre was extremely high this year.
The boys should be extremely proud of themselves. They were a pleasure to work with and it was a privilege to see them blossom in confidence.
