What I have learned from Chris d’Lacey
One boy writes about his time listening to a talk from author Chris d'Lacey.
Chris d’Lacey visited Lanesborough School on the 7th March 2016. Throughout the talk, he began to tell us about his different series of published books. We learnt that he had written a whole series of books called “The Last Dragon Chronicles". He has written seven books in the series, however, he insisted that his favourite book he had written was the first one, The Fire Within.
The last book in the Dragon Chronicles series is about a boy and his dragon who are about to rise. To begin with this series of books started to be about a squirrel in danger with his owner David, who saves him. However when Chris d’Lacey sent it to his editor, she said that the idea was great, however… she wanted to change the whole plot to a dragon who finds an owner called Daniel.
Chris d’Lacey has also written a series of books called the Unicorne series, (Unicorne was deliberately spelt incorrectly due to the fact that it stood for random and unexplainable events.)
His inspiration for writing and becoming an author was a pigeon! You would probably think, how on an earth would a pigeon be someone’s inspiration? However this is no joke! The pigeon’s name is Gregory Peck. When Chris was younger he found him in the park with a broken wing, so he took him to the vet, and they said: “put him back where you found him because he will die in a few hours!” Chris did not like this, so he decided to keep him in his garden shed. Eventually, after a few months, Gregory Peck's wing was fixed, and he had managed to survive. Chris thought that it was time to let him go, so he drove a whole fifty miles and let him go free. When Chris arrived back home, he found that Gregory had beat him home. Gregory Peck survived for a whole thirteen years.
To conclude: on the 7th March 2016 Year 8 have learned much about Chris d’Lacey and his life. He has truly inspired us to follow our dreams when we are older. I would highly recommend Chris d’Lacey books.
