Lanesborough Book Week
The boys excitement for Book Week has started today with World Book Day!
We are all looking forward to Book Week 2016 beginning Monday 7th March!
This year the Prep department are welcoming writers Nick Cook, who recently completed a writing research trip to the volcanic landscape of Iceland for the second book in his Cloud Riders' trilogy, Breaking Storm and Chris D’Lacey, an English writer of children's fiction best known for writing The Last Dragon Chronicles. We have a visit from Sonia Leong, a comic artist and illustrator for the seniors and we are very much looking forward to hearing Chris Cannaughton storytelling and one of Britain’s best loved poets, Brian Moses, performing his fantastic poetry. Year 3 will also enjoy poems by Kevin Price.
Books by our visiting authors will of course be available to buy during the week, with book signings taking place during break and lunch times. Boys will be able to buy from The Travelling Book Fair in allocated slots on Wednesday 9th.
Book Character Day will take place on Friday 11th. As discussed with the boys in their English lessons, this should be a home created costume with a one minute oral presentation prepared for the day on their chosen character.
Book Swap will take place on Wednesday 9th. Boys should bring in an age appropriate book they have enjoyed and would like to recommend and give to someone else. Please ask the boys to wrap their book and write a short blurb to really make the Book Swap experience exciting!
We will reveal the Annual Book Review Competition winners and money raised by this year’s Readathon during Book Week too.
Thank you for all your support. We hope the boys have a wonderful week! Please keep encouraging reading and the sharing of books at home.
Monday brings the start of a fun filled week; from drama and Beatrix Potter art workshops with Tormead Pre-Prep, to character dress up day; the boys will be immersed in good literature. We know the boys have planned which book character they wish to showcase on Friday. We hope, whilst the theme is ‘Beatrix Potter and other animals’, that the boys enjoy the experience of role play whatever they choose to wear! Please send into school any named Beatrix Potter books which the boys might like to share, in order to celebrate 150 years since her birth.
