Lanesborough Silver Swimming Success
Saturday 6th May, the K2 leisure centre in Crawley hosted the annual IAPS National Swimming Finals.
This year Lanesborough had the most qualifiers in its history with two relay teams and three individual finalists, all which were from Year 5.
The first events of the day were the relays. With 12 squads qualifying for the finals, the teams were split into two heats and places would be decided by fastest times overall. The Lanesborough relay team of Hayden Amiss, Joseph Readhead, Theo Oxley and Lorcan Read came to the events as the fourth fastest seeds from the qualifiers in both the Freestyle and Medley relays. The boys knew that with a strong swim, a medal could be within reach. In two hotly contested finals, Lanesborough managed to break from the pack to claim the 2nd place on both occasions and in doing so became the first medallists in Lanesborough history. The team was presented their medals by London 2012 Olympic Silver Medallist Michael Jamieson.
The individual competition saw Hayden Amiss, Theo Oxley and Lorcan Read compete in the last 16 in the Country. Lorcan and Theo both managed to qualify for the final of their events and their hopes of a hat-trick of medals rested on one final race. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be despite two valiant efforts.
An incredible day and a fantastic achievement by the boys.
